God will allow life circumstances to bring our spirit to a place of surrender when we come to the end of our own efforts to change. God’s humbling of us and His power to change us encourages our faith in the change maker, Jesus. When this occurs it causes us to have mercy on others and gives us a desire to help others.
A biblical example of this was Joseph and his brothers that sold him into slavery. Joseph endured much suffering because of his brothers actions, but God, used the evil intent of his brothers to save the entire family of Abraham from severe famine in the land. Read the story for yourself in Genesis 45 where Joseph reveals himself to his brothers. He cares for them and had mercy on them. Joseph being sold into slavery forced a surrender to his circumstances but he proved valuable to Pharoah. He interpreted Pharoah’s dreams and predicted the famine. He did not just identify the problem but made suggestions on how to prepare for the famine. This pleased Pharoah so he put him in charge of the entire kingdom to prepare for the famine. Ultimately saving his family which was in the family line of Jesus our Savior.
As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. Genesis 50:20
